The Innovation Team at Anthem is leading the reinvention of healthcare by identifying, incubating, and implementing valuable solutions to deliver impact at scale and improve the health of the over 40 million members Anthem serves. Our team within Anthem Digital is closely affiliated with Anthem’s Enterprise Strategy Group and engages with stakeholders at every level, internally and externally, to infuse innovative ideas, behaviors, processes, and products across the organization. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive solutions from seed to scale, leverage resources and relationships to be a change agent leading the modernization and digitization of healthcare for a Fortune 30 company.

As Staff VP, Digital Innovation Implementation & Execution, you’ll report to the Vice President of Innovation and help shape the team’s portfolio and direction by leading the solution development, implementation, and scaling of solutions and services that transform healthcare. You will lead an execution-focused team that partners across Anthem to build and/or implement technology-enabled solutions to complex business needs and healthcare challenges. Your team will work cross-functionally across Innovation to develop solution concepts, refine MVPs, and ultimately guide the most promising candidates through deployment at scale.

This is an execution-focused role for someone who leads from the front and is skilled in driving implementation, managing a portfolio of initiatives, and leading a team focused on execution at scale. Key to your success will be grit, the ability to navigate the complexities of a large organization, and a relentless drive to see solutions scale across the enterprise. You will be looked to as a trusted partner and problem solver, determinedly helping all stakeholders overcome obstacles and guiding solutions forward.


  • Lead implementation and partner to scale high value, technology-enabled solutions and services from MVP through deployment at scale

  • Ability to drive a portfolio of solutions in various stages from concept through to scaling

  • Develop solution strategies and roadmaps. Adept at managing timelines, presenting and communicating progress to executive teams.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships to drive results.

  • Direct multiple major projects/programs with broad scope and strategic business impact

  • Work collaboratively across a matrixed, cross-functional structure, and hire, train, coach, counsel, and evaluate the performance of direct reports to develop a high-performance team

  • Track outcomes and manage activities and program performance in accordance with budget and strategic direction

    Skills needed to thrive in this role:

  • Strong ability to employ a hypothesis-driven approach to tackle complex problems

  • Skillful at building consensus and making thoughtful, data-driven recommendations for project/program prioritization, solution design, issue management, risk identification, and mitigation

  • Masterful cross-functional communication to ensure all technical and non-technical stakeholders can collaborate effectively and stay engaged throughout the lifecycle of a project

  • A “radar” for identifying when a struggling project needs additional guidance from you or knowledge from other experts within Anthem

  • Ability to insightfully examine the status quo, analyze opportunities for improvement, creatively generate solutions, and demonstrate the grit to realize the change

  • Leadership and the ability to inspire, motivate, and organize a team, winning the respect of your peers and direct reports


BA/BS 8+ years of experience in driving project and program execution, strategy, Management, or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Demonstrated results with progressively increasing responsibilities and 3+ years of people-leadership experience with the proven ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and a geographically distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading Digital Solutions to implement impact to scale within large matrixed organizations

  • Executive presence with the ability to present to C-suite executives

  • Proven Track record of exercising conceptual/thought leadership while moving programs forward

  • Experience leading Digital Solutions to implement impact to scale within large matrixed organizations

  • Project Management experience working on multiple workstreams at a given time

  • Ability to track KPI’s around performance for stakeholders

  • Lean Six Sigma and/or Black Belt Certification is highly desirable

  • Consulting background (Bain, McKinsey, BCG) and/or MBA specifically in Engineering or similar background highly preferred

  • Any US location; within commuting distance to an Anthem office is preferred

Annual Salary Range*: $162,320 - $202,900

Actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level.
